Typical school day
Pre-school sessions
Early start available from 8.00am
Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 3pm
After School Club, Monday to Friday 3.00pm – 6pm
The Orchard is open for 38 weeks each year, with our term dates matched as closely as possible to those of the local schools.
Timetable and routines
We believe that care and education have equal importance in the activities and experiences we offer our children. The routines and activities that make up the day are provided in ways that:
- help each child to feel that they are a valued member of the pre-school
- ensure the safety of every child
- help children to gain from the social experience of being part of a group
- provide children with opportunities to learn and help them to value learning
The session
We organise our sessions so that the children can choose from, and work at, a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion. The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others.
Outdoor activities contribute to children’s health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. The children have the opportunity, and are encouraged, to take part in outdoor child-chosen and adult-led activities, as well as those provided in the indoor playroom(s).
Starting at our pre-school
We want your child to feel happy and safe with us. To make sure that this is the case, the staff will work with you to decide on how to help your child to settle into the pre-school. The pre-school has a policy about helping children to settle into the pre-school: a copy is available from Sam Talman, the manager.

We joined The Orchard Community Preschool midterm after a really difficult experience at a previous nursery, and I can honestly say this place has been a complete blessing for our family.

Early Start

After School Club
Can't get back till after 3.00pm? Have your child stay to after school club. If you have an older sibling who would like to attend we can collect them from Milford Infant School see typical day for more information or fees page for costs.
