Curriculum

Our aims and objectives
Our aim is to provide high quality care and education for children below statutory school age in a happy, safe and enriching environment. We see each child as an individual whom we seek to develop at a rate that is appropriate for him or her. We believe that we shall achieve this by:

  • nurturing a lasting enthusiasm for learning
  • developing independence
  • encouraging a caring attitude
  • building self esteem
  • adding to the life and well-being of the local community
  • offering children and their parents/carers a service that promotes equality and values diversity
  • working in partnership with parents/carers to help children to learn and develop

The early years of a child’s life are vitally important, as this is when the foundations are laid for the rest of their lives. We believe that parents/carers are the main educators of their children and that is why we seek to involve parents as much as possible in our activities. That way we can all work together for the benefit of each child.

We are pleased to arrange visits for parents/carers of prospective pre-school children and we encourage parents/carers to call in or telephone to arrange a mutually convenient date and time. We can then ensure we are able to give our undivided attention during the visit.

Children’s development and learning
The provision for children’s development and learning is guided by The Early Years Foundation Stage (DCFS 2007). From September 2008 the Early Years Foundation Stage became law. This brings together Birth to Three Matters and the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage. Our provision reflects the four key themes and 16 commitments of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

How we provide for development and learning
Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born. The care and education offered by our pre-school helps children to continue to do this by providing all of the children with interesting activities that are appropriate for their age and stage of development.

Special Educational Needs. As part of the pre-school’s policy to make sure that its provision meets the needs of each individual child, we take account of any special needs a child may have. The pre-school works to the requirements of the 1993 Education Act and The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice (2001 and 2010 up-dates).

What Parents are Saying

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Warmest, Most Supportive Nursery

We joined The Orchard Community Preschool midterm after a really difficult experience at a previous nursery, and I can honestly say this place has been a complete blessing for our family.

From the very first visit, every single member of staff made us feel welcome and reassured. It’s clear that they truly love what they do, and their dedication to the children shines through in everything.

Z has additional needs, and even though we had no formal diagnosis or reports when he started, the team supported him with understanding and care from day one. They’ve been incredible throughout his diagnosis journey and EHCP process—offering not just support for Z, but emotional support for me as well. I’ve never felt alone through any of it.

What’s touched me the most is the warmth and acceptance from the other children. The environment they’ve created is like a little family, where every child is celebrated for who they are. Watching how kind and inclusive the children are with one another has been so heartwarming—it speaks volumes about the culture of this nursery.

I truly owe everything to OCP for the start they’ve given my son, and it’s all a huge credit to the amazing manager who leads the nursery with so much care, compassion, and vision. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤️

“I look forward to coming in every morning – the staff are so warm and friendly and any of my child’s ‘wobbles’ are soon gone.”

“My child has thrived in your care and developed into a lovely interesting and confident child. He has been so much more settled than in his previous setting and I am always impressed by the friendly and open atmosphere.”

“My child has developed well and is very happy to attend.”

“The on-line Baby’s Days system is fantastic and I’m impressed by the regularity of comments”

“I print off the termly reports from Baby’s Days and it’s great being able to chat to the key person.”

“My child has always been happy attending The Orchard and has developed rapidly since being there.”
