Great days at The Orchard

The Orchard Community Pre-School was first opened in 1986 (having been Cedar Lodge Playgroup before then). It was the parents and carers of the pre-school’s children who raised the money required to buy the building and to have it erected in its current position behind the Milford Village Hall.

The land on which it stands is leased from Waverley Borough Council. In 1999, after eighteen months of fund-raising, the pre-school committee raised sufficient funds to extend the pre-school and provide a much-needed extra room. Parents/carers’ fund-raising efforts continued and in 2010 our latest building project provided ramp access for the disabled plus a new porch and office.

This meant that the former office could be converted into a quiet room, giving even more space for the children’s use. The Orchard Community Pre-School has its own attractive garden, playground and covered outside play area. It has a wide range of equipment both indoors and outside.

The Pre-School is registered with OFSTED and is inspected regularly.

We have recently changed our company status to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Because of this we are seen as a whole new setting by OFSTED. The ‘old’ Orchard was inspected in November 2024, but this report will not show under the ‘new’ Orchard. We are members of the Pre-School Learning Alliance, an umbrella organisation that supports us in such areas as insurance and staff training.
